About Jointly
What is Jointly?
Jointly is a South African co-parenting platform that helps separated and divorced parents manage maintenance payments, custody scheduling, communication, documents, and their children’s wellbeing, all in one secure, POPIA-compliant place.
Who is Jointly for?
Separated or divorced co-parents who need to coordinate maintenance and custody, as well as the mediators, family-law practitioners, and service providers who support those families.
Is Jointly built for South Africa?
Yes. Jointly uses ZAR currency and PayFast, includes South African public holidays, supports SA ID numbers, and is designed around South African maintenance law. Your data is handled in line with POPIA.
Is my account monitored by a court?
No. Jointly is a private tool for you and your co-parent, and it isn’t monitored by any court or third party. If you ever need to, you can export your own records and reports to use as you see fit.
Getting started
How do I sign up?
Head to the web app and create your account in a few minutes, then set up your profile and invite your co-parent.
Does the other parent need their own account?
Jointly works best when both parents take part, so shared calendars, payments, and messages stay in sync. Each parent uses their own login.
How do I invite my co-parent?
From inside Jointly you invite them by email. They receive a secure link (valid for 14 days); when they open it and sign up with that same email address, they’re linked to your shared matter automatically.
Can I use Jointly on my own?
Yes. You can use Jointly as a personal record even if your co-parent hasn’t joined: log payments, store documents, and use the calendar, journal, and children’s profiles. Shared features like payment confirmation and message threads activate once your co-parent accepts your invite, which they can do at any time.
What devices can I use Jointly on?
The full-featured web app is available now and works in any modern browser. Native iOS and Android apps are coming soon, and your account stays in sync across all of them.
Is my information separate from my co-parent’s?
You each have your own login. Shared features (like the calendar, messages, and payments) are visible to both of you, while private spaces like your journal are visible only to you.
Pricing & plans
How much does Jointly cost?
Parent plans are Starter (R99/mo), Standard (R149/mo), and Professional (R249/mo). Plans for mediators and practitioners start at R299/mo. All prices are in ZAR.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Every new account starts with a 14-day free trial of our Professional plan. When the trial ends, you can continue on any plan: Starter, Standard, or Professional.
Does each parent pay separately?
Yes. Each parent has their own subscription, so one parent’s plan doesn’t cover the other. You each get the features of your own tier.
How do I pay?
Payments are processed securely in South African Rand through PayFast.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. You can cancel whenever you like and keep access until the end of your current billing period.
Do you have plans for mediators and service providers?
Yes. See our For Providers page for directory listings, profile management, analytics, and consultation booking, all with a 14-day free trial.
Finances & payments
Can Jointly track maintenance and shared expenses?
Yes. You can set up maintenance obligations, log and confirm payments, split shared expenses with receipt uploads, and raise reimbursement requests, all kept in a clear ledger.
How does payment confirmation work?
When a payment is logged, the other parent can confirm receipt, so there’s an agreed, timestamped record rather than a dispute.
Does Jointly move money between parents?
No. Jointly is for record-keeping. You make payments however you prefer (bank transfer, cash, and so on), then log them in Jointly so they can be confirmed and kept on record. PayFast is only used to pay for your Jointly subscription, not to move money between parents.
Is there a maintenance calculator?
Yes. Jointly includes a calculator that estimates amounts based on South African maintenance guidelines, so you can sanity-check a figure.
Can I export my payment records?
Yes. You can export a clean payment ledger and reports to PDF whenever you need them.
Calendar & custody
Can I set up a custody schedule?
Yes. Apply custody templates like week-on-week-off or 2-2-3, and view everything in month, week, day, or agenda views.
What happens if we need to change an event?
You can raise a change request, and the event only updates once both parents approve it, so the calendar always reflects what was agreed.
Are South African public holidays included?
Yes. SA public holidays are built in, so it’s easy to plan around them.
Can I schedule handovers?
Yes. You can plan pickups and drop-offs so everyone knows where to be.
Communication & documents
How does messaging work?
Jointly offers threaded messaging that’s kept on record, with the ability to mark a message as a formal notice and to star important messages so they’re easy to find later.
Can messages be edited or deleted?
No. Messages are append-only: once sent, they can’t be edited or deleted by anyone. That gives you a tamper-evident record, and important messages can be marked as a formal notice.
Can I store important documents?
Yes. The document vault keeps court orders, parenting plans, receipts, and more, with version history. Documents are shared through short-lived signed links rather than open URLs.
Does Jointly have video calling?
Yes. Built-in video calling is included, so you don’t need a separate app.
Can I book a consultation with a professional?
Yes. You can book consultations with mediators and practitioners from inside Jointly.
Children & wellbeing
What can I store about my children?
Each child gets a profile for medical, school, and emergency information, along with per-child custody arrangements.
Is my journal private?
Yes. Your personal journal, including mood tracking, is visible only to you, never to the other parent.
What is the SOS feature?
SOS lets you raise an urgent alert when something needs immediate attention.
Can I generate reports?
Yes. You can generate reports and export them to PDF whenever you need them.
Privacy & security
Is my data secure?
Your information is encrypted and access-controlled, and documents are shared via short-lived signed links. Your private journal is visible only to you.
Is Jointly POPIA-compliant?
Yes. Jointly is built to handle your personal information in line with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). See our Privacy Policy for the detail.
Who can see my information?
Shared features are visible to both co-parents. Private spaces, like your journal, are visible only to you.
Can I export my data?
Yes. You can export your records and reports at any time, so your data stays useful to you.
Can I delete my account and data?
You can request deletion, and we anonymise your personal details. Certain records (such as payments and messages) are retained as required by South African law, typically for the life of the matter plus five years. Contact us to make a request.
